Dates subject to change
Whilst we do not expect the timelines published to change, please be aware that this can never be guaranteed. As such, you are advised to check this page periodically.
Changes to any of the stages of the timeline will be reflected immediately on this page, as well as noted in a news item where considered necessary.
Scotland vacancy dates
The dates below refer to the England, Northern Ireland and Wales vacancy. Most of the dates will be the same or similar for the Scotland vacancy, but applicants to this area should refer to the Scottish Medical Training website.
IMT 2026 timeline
* Whilst the vast majority of IMT programmes will start on this date, they can start as late as April 2027; the programme start date will be clear when select your programme preferences.
Provisional programme numbers & interview dates
The information on this page will be updated once it can be confirmed.
It is the intention that indicative programme numbers for all regions will be published prior to the application opening date, although this cannot be guaranteed. Regions that are not declared by the opening date will be updated as and when this is received. Please be aware that the numbers given on this page are indicative and it is not uncommon for vacancy numbers to change during the course of the round.
All regions will have IMT posts but not all will have ACCS Internal Medicine posts. It is possible that regions which do not have an ACCS-IM post declared at the start of the round may declare one after applications have closed. Whilst we try and minimise instances of this it is not always possible, so please bear this is mind this could occur. Generally, once a region enter a post into a round they would always have at least one post available and would only withdraw it in exceptional circumstances.
Interview dates
Round 1 interview dates will be weekdays (Monday to Friday) between Monday 12 January and Friday 13 February 2026. Exact dates are being confirmed, but it is expected there will be interviews on most dates during this period.
All regions in England, Northern Ireland and Wales are hosting interviews in this round. It makes no difference which region is hosting your interview as the interview is the same and your application is in consideration for any programme across the the three nations, regardless of who manages your interview. When you come to book a slot you will see which region is hosting the one on which you are booking so you know where to direct queries regarding attendance.
Candidates can be interviewed at any of the available dates, regardless of where they wish to work. When choosing your preferred date you should do this on the basis of your availability and the most convenient available.
Scotland vacancy
Details of interview dates and post numbers for the Scotland vacancy will be available on the Scottish Medical Training website.
Competition ratios
While it is difficult to predict exactly the level of competition for IMT programmes, we have published data on previous years' recruitment to this website.
