The IMT recruitment website has just had an update of information to be relevant to 2025 recruitment. Additionally, we have published the Applicants’ Guide, which can be downloaded from the document library.
The website has detailed information to help you throughout the process, whilst the guide gives a summary to IMT recruitment and is a good starting point for those who want an overview first.
If you cannot find the answer to a query, we have published lots of FAQs to answer the most common queries but if you need further help please contact us by submitting a query to our support portal.
Interviews and dates
All interviews for IMT will be held online and will take place throughout the period between 13 January and 14 February, the exact dates will be published to the dates & posts section of the website; although it is anticipated that there will be interviews held on most days (Monday to Friday) during this period.
One major change for 2025 recruitment is that interviews will now be held via a multi-station format. The interview will cover the same areas as in 2024 and you can view the format in the interview structure and content section of the website.
Post numbers
Provisional programme numbers will be published to the dates & posts section of the website prior to applications opening. IMT numbers are normally quite similar from one year to the next, so you can review the fill rates from previous years in the Document Library for an indication.
Application scoring
The application scoring matrix for IMT recruitment in 2025 has been confirmed. There have been a few changes from 2024 recruitment, and a document was published to this website in December 2023 which detailed the changes.
One round only
In recent years IMT has filled all posts in the first round and so there are no plans for a second round this year. We urge anyone interested in an IMT programme starting in 2025 to apply in the first round.
Recruitment to standalone IMY3 posts
Recruitment to standalone IMY3 programmes is being piloted for posts starting from August 2025 and initially covers UK training programmes in Scotland and the West Midlands. IMY3 is the final year of the Internal Medicine Stage 1 training programme and successful completion demonstrates the capability requirements to enter Group 1 specialty training programmes, without the need for an Alternative Certificate. The standalone IMY3 programmes will be identical to the IMY3 year undertaken by those in the IMS1 programme and trainees will be expected to meet the same curriculum outcomes.
If you think entering at CT3 may be more suitable for your previous level of experience, see the IMY3 section of this website for more information.
