IMY3 is the final year of the Internal Medicine Stage 1 training programme and successful completion demonstrates the capability requirements to enter Group 1 specialty training programmes, without the need for an Alternative Certificate.
The standalone IMY3 programmes will be identical to the IMY3 year undertaken by those in the IMS1 programme and trainees will be expected to meet the same curriculum outcomes.
The standalone IMY3 programmes is expected to be of particular interest to those from a non-UK background, as it will give those seeking to train in Group 1 higher training programmes exposure to UK training and practice. It is known that entering Group 1 training programmes directly can be very challenging and IMY3 offers a more protective environment to develop medical registrar capability.
