Applying

As with higher specialty training recruitment, all applications will be made on Oriel

Once the vacancy is published to Oriel in the week or two before the opening date, it will be found by searching for the training programme: 'Internal Medicine Training'. It will have the Grade of CT3, so please ensure you are selecting the right vacancy, as there will be some overlap with when the CT1-level vacancy will be open.

The application form

The general information on the PHST recruitment site applies to IMY3 too. The information below covers where something is different to PHST or applies only to IMY3.

Part 2 - Training history and previous training details

Academic clinical fellowship benchmarking does not apply to IMY3, and the IMY3 process cannot be used as a method to be clinically benchmarked for a Group 1 physician specialty academic clinical fellowship.

Part 2 - Competence and eligibility

In the IMY3 process there are only two forms of acceptable evidence:

  • An ARCP showing successful completion of year 2 of an IMT programme, or year 3 of an ACCS internal programme. This is just for those previously completing that level but exiting the programme before completion of the final year. The core capability section of the PHST Recruitment website details what qualifies as 'successful completion' and when an alternative certificate may be needed.
  • The Alternative Certificate to Enter Group 2 Higher Physician Specialty Training for all other applicants.

There is no need to submit other documents at this stage. Evidence for geriatric medicine and critical care capabilites will be required when uploading evidence for those progressing to the shortlisting stage.

Supporting

This section has some substantial differences to the higher specialty training process:

  • No commitment to specialty questions - this is not assessed as gaining the capability and experience required to enter IMY3 is considered sufficient commitment.
  • Geriatric medicine and critical care curriculum requirements - this is the section of the form where you will indicate whether and how you meet the requirements detailed in the core capability section of the website.

After submission

The information on the PHST recruitment website applies in the same way to IMY3 recruitment.

The one difference is that the shortlisting process will also include assessment of the geriatric medicine and critical care curricula requirements outlined in the core capability section.

Applications will be rejected where they have not sufficiently demonstrated completion of those requirements. In some cases, more information may be requested if your completion of the requirements is unclear.
